Delores Taylor
Delores Ilene Shelbourn was born April 13, 1942, to Adelbert and Adelia (Hobson) Shelbourn in Valentine, Nebraska. Her family home was on a farm north of Crookston, Nebraska, just two miles into South Dakota. During her grade school years she attended a one-room school located one mile from their home. She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 9.
She went to high school at Sunshine Bible Academy in Miller, South Dakota, graduating in 1960. At Sunshine, she met Freeman Taylor whom she married in 1961, at the Lakeview Reformed Church. Before they had children, Delores worked at the First National Bank. They attended the newly formed Berean Church in Valentine. In 1963 Renee joined the family, followed by Bradley in 1965. They lived in Winner and Rapid City, South Dakota, before Delores and the children moved back to Valentine in 1973. She worked at Prang’s Apparel, Valentine Clinic and the Taco Stop before mental illness made work no longer possible. Delores was always active in her church as well as many years working with Child Evangelism Fellowship.
Delores moved to Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center in Brush, Colorado, in 2000 due to medical problems, but regained her health and independence so she could live at Tabor Apartments for many years. Here she made many close friendships and was happy with her independence. She returned to Eben Ezer for care shortly before passing on January 23, 2017.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Adelbert and Adelia, and youngest brother Dennis. She is survived by her sister Virginia (Lloyd) Kuipers; brothers: Leslie (Marilyn) Shelbourn and Robert (Sandra) Shelbourn; sister-in-law Shirley Shelbourn; her children: Renee (Jerry) Cox and Bradley (Adrienne) Taylor; grandchildren: Cassondra (Matt) McCracken, Jerilyn Cox, Barry (Kaitlin) Walter III, Jerron Cox, Jenny Cox and Breyanna Taylor; and great grandchildren: Mercy, Justus and Asher McCracken. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her greatest joys were her faith in God, her family, and serving others.
