Frankie H. Running, II, Chief Little Elk, age 60 years, passed away January 16, 2019 at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio.
Born to Al Running and Dian Crow Dog, Chief Little Elk was raised on the Lakota Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. As a spiritual leader and minister of the Native American Church, he helped many. Chief Little Elk was an avid artist, adept linguist and a talented spiritual singer with a unique indigenous style. He was also a veteran of the Green Beret unit of the US Army.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dian Crow Dog; brother Ernest Running; sister Colleen Running; and daughter Delores Elk Looks Back.
He is survived by his father Al Running; wife Cindy Bissell; son Quincy Ridley; grandson Quincy Ridley Jr; granddaughters: Rebecca Ridley, Kendra Elk Looks Back, Tonisha Kitteaux and Dian Rose Elk Looks Back.
Wake services were held Monday January 21st followed by traditional NAC funeral service Tuesday, January 22, 2019 with burial at the Running Family Cemetery in Grass Mountain, SD.
A ceremony celebrating his life will be held at 6:30pm on February 17, 2019 at Standing Rock Cultural Arts, 300 N Water St., Suite H, Kent, OH. Reverend Lawrence Reddest of the Native American Church will conduct the ceremony with a dinner to follow. In lieu of flowers please make tax free donations to Standing Rock Cultural Arts.
