Obituary for Lucille Mary Combs (Dawkins)
Lucille Mary Dawkins was born on December 21, 1924 in Caputa, South Dakota to William T. and Nellie (Klinkner) Dawkins. She passed away on January 15, 2019 in Blair, Nebraska at age 94.
Lucille had two older brothers, Leo and William. As a young child her family moved to Chadron, NE where she spent her childhood.
She was united in marriage with Thomas Dave Combs on July 20, 1946 in Chadron, NE. They had two sons, Geary & Larry. In 1949, they purchased Ideal Cleaners in Valentine, NE. They operated the business until retirement in 1965.
Lucille was an accomplished seamstress and did alterations and repairs for the dry cleaning business. She was active in St Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers.
In 2014, she moved to Crowell Home in Blair, NE.
She is survived by two sons: Geary (Linda) Combs and Larry Combs of Blair, NE; grandchildren: Jason Combs (Resa) of Vienna, VA and Kelly Trumble of Pagosa Springs, CO and four great-grandchildren: Thane & Colin Trumble and Michael & Rebekah Combs.
Funeral services will be held at St Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine Saturday, January 26 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be Friday, January 25 from 5-7 pm at the church with Rosary and Prayer at 7 pm. A Memorial Service was held at Crowell Home in Blair.
Memorials may be directed to St Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine, NE.
