On September 7, 2018, Zella B. Brooks, age 88 of Valentine NE, was called home to God. Heaven received another angel. Zella was residing at the Westfield Quality Care Nursing Home in Aurora, NE where she died of natural causes.

Zella was born on April 15, 1930 in Lead SD, the daughter of Clinton and Pearl (Humphrey) Redden. She grew up in Valentine, but graduated from High School in Omaha, NE.

On September 15, 1949, she married Clarence Smith and thru this union had two children, Janiece Hamik, and Curtis (Sonny) Smith.

On November 5, 1973, she married Forrest Brooks at the Presbyterian Church, where they were members.

Zella maintained many jobs throughout her life, a few are: UPS, Young’s Western Wear, Valentine Pharmacy, Henderson’s IGA and lastly the Comfort Inn.

Zella is survived by her children, Janiece of Omaha, NE and Curtis and his wife Christine of Grand Island, NE.

She has 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.

A memorial service of remebrance was held Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine, NE with inurnment following at Mount Hope Cemetery, Valentine. Holmes Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
