Life Story for Ramona Rose Hernandez (Guerue)

Ramona Rose Guerue Hernandez was born March 06, 1933 in Parmelee, South Dakota to Philip and Victoria (White Thunder) Guerue. She spent most of her childhood between Parmelee and St. Francis Boarding School. After High School she moved to Alliance, NE to take an electronics job; it was there she met her Husband, Alejandro “Alex” Hernandez. They were married in the winter of 1952 and had 2 children in Nebraska, then left for California on a tribal relocation project where they had 2 more children; she stayed on the west coast for about 20 yrs. In the mid 70’s, a return to Parmelee started the next venture in her story; this would lead to the impact of many lives, many of whom to this day can attest to the legacy she will leave behind. Ramona, her husband, her sisters and brothers began an adult and youth ministry on the Sioux Tribes of South Dakota; her ministry grew to include her nieces, nephews, daughter and friends. The Parmelee Prayer Group of Chief Corner Stone Ministries traveled together throughout the Native Tribes of the US, including prisons, dormitories and villages to testify to the obstacles she had overcome through the Grace and Mercy of God. Ramona planted seeds of Faith in all she encountered, in the people she fellowshipped with and those who would come to her for prayer. She always had a kind word and a hug; as you listened to the words that nurtured your soul, you could feel the love illuminate in your heart.

After her husband passed away in 2000, she devoted the rest of her life to the Sicangu Lakota Nation, interacting and giving back to communities in prayer and encouragement. Here is where she will take her journey home to be with those that preceded her in death; her husband, Alejandro “Alex” Hernandez, her parents, Philip and Victoria Guerue, her brother Philip “Bud” Guerue, her sisters Evelyn (Guerue) Douville and Alverda “Birdie” (Guerue)Beck and the relatives that have gone before her.

She is survived by her Children: Laurel “Tony” Hernandez, Gerald “Jerry” Hernandez, Michael “Mike” Hernandez, and Kimberley “Kim” Hernandez; Her Granddchildren: Brent Hernandez, Keith Hernandez, Justin Hernandez, Gerald Hernandez Jr, Jolene Hernandez, Michael Hernandez Jr, Laura (Hernandez) Bojorge, Joshua (Hernandez) Martinez and Joseph (Hernandez) Martinez; and her Great Grandchildren: Alexander Hernandez, Elijah Hernandez, Quinn Hernandez, Alyssa Bojorge and Aleena Bojorge.

Ramona was a devoted daughter, a loving wife, a nurturing mother, an affectionate grandmother and great-grandmother, a protective sister, a best friend, confidant, warrior, and a minister of Faith, Hope and Love. She loved to laugh and live life to the fullest. She will be truly missed by all who knew her, by those who were touched by her wisdom and grace, and by those who heard her voice of truth and the lyrics she sang with all her heart. We will not say Good Bye but only “Until we meet again” … Toksa
