Obituary for Charlotte Lambert
It is with great sadness that the family of Charlotte Lambert announces her passing after a long decline in her health. Charlotte passed away in Vermillion, SD on February 9, 2018 at the age of 92 years.
Charlotte was a citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. She was born at home with her twin, Tracy Wright, to Guy and Nancy (Little Money) Lambert. Charlotte attended St. Mary’s School for Indian Girls. After graduating from high school, Charlotte moved to Sioux Falls, SD where she earned a degree in laboratory technology. She dedicated her life to improving health care for the people, working at Indian Health Service facilities in Gallup, NM and throughout the southwest and Montana. Charlotte was offered the position of Director of Quality Control for laboratories throughout the Aberdeen I. H. S. Area. Upon retiring from Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service, Charlotte moved to Vermillion, SD to be by her twin sister Tracy and younger sister Martha. Charlotte was recruited by the Native American community of Vermillion to head up the Urban Indian Health Clinic until that office was closed. At that time, Charlotte moved into full retirement to enjoy her years in the Vermillion community and being with her sisters Tracy and Martha.
She is survived by her sister Martha Haukaas, cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 17 at the Bishop Harold Jones Building, Mission, SD, with burial following in the St. Phillip & St. James Cemetery in Horse Creek Community near White River, SD. A prayer service was held at 7:00 PM Friday at the Bishop Harold Jones Bldg. The Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion, SD and the Holmes Funeral Home in Valentine, NE handled the arrangements.
